Hong Kong data center update

Hong Kong February 2014
Commtech Asia are nearing the completion of the sixth data center in the idyllic industrial park in the south-eastern region of Kowloon, Hong Kong which has been dedicated for IT, communications and high tech industry providers and is now approaching 90 hectares.

These projects combine to provide in excess of 60MW of IT capacity to either Tier 3 or Tier 4 resiliency metrics and equate to circa 36,000 m2 of white space. The regional infrastructure backbone is also provided in TKO via a network of sea cables terminating in landing stations within three of these facilities.

The means of providing resiliency for power remains consistently with diesel generators supporting the utility power and static UPS. The rotary diesel UPS solution has been investigated but as yet not implemented. The means of maintaining cooling supplies for recent major projects has moved away from the traditional dual cooling systems and looks to thermal storage and fast starting chillers to ensure that cooling can be maintained in all failure scenarios.

Commtech Asia are looking to further establish this track record of providing essential support to data center providers in this region and are currently in negotiation with both existing and new clients for their projects in this estate.
Commtech brings new innovation to Asia

Hong Kong February 2014
Commtech Asia in Hong Kong has brought new pipework flushing and cleaning technology to Hong Kong. Teaming up with Hydrosphere from the UK, Commtech is now able to offer large time savings and at the same time address the logistical issues of getting fresh water to site and disposing of dirty water generated by the standard process.

New chemical and filtration technology means more comfort that the water systems within your building are being maintained to a level that even after twenty years, they will still look brand new. This is worlds apart from what we see now and the problems caused by the methods of cleaning and treatment of systems currently employed.

During the launch event held in December in Hong Kong, a presentation was given by Tom Barrett who is Business Development Director of Hydrosphere to an audience that included End Users, Consultants and Contractors. It was explained what perils manifest themselves with new systems using the current approach and how these can be avoided and more by adopting this new innovation.

If you would like to know more or arrange a presentation or discussion on how this may be able to help you, please contact us at the below email address.

BBC visits Singapore data center project

Singapore January 2014
Ever wondered what it would be like to walk around a custom-built data center? The BBC visits a recent project for Digital Realty in Singapore, which Commtech Asia provided commissioning management services for.

"As I stepped inside the first layer of the fortress-like building, the first thought that came into my mind was: "Thank God I am not claustrophobic."

With just enough room for one person to stand, the circular glass enclosure - designed to ensure that no-one can "tailgate" another person - is one of the many levels of security that you have to go through to get beyond the reception area of the building.

But then again, it was no ordinary building that I was about to enter.

Welcome to the world of what can aptly be called digital fortresses - custom-built buildings that house data centres."
